Ground works and civils works for a new Asda Superstore in Birkenhead, Merseyside.
The project consisted of substructure and undercroft car park construction, in addition to the construction of a decked car park.
Enabling works on site included temporary support systems, followed by ground works, bulk earthworks, drainage and ducting installation.
Structural works consisted of extensive concrete ground beams, retaining walls and isolated columns bases and the design and construction of a concrete access ramp to the multi-storey car park.
The suspended concrete floor slabs were constructed using fibre reinforced concrete.
A lift shaft was constructed together with travelator bases, to provide pedestrian access from the undercroft parking to the ground level of the store.
Specialist tarmac plant was required for surfacing works to the undercroft car park due to the restricted headroom of 2.2m.
Waterproofing systems, road marking and the installation of Armco barriers, bollards and street furniture also formed part of the project.
