Balance of Plant Contract – engineering, design, construction and installation of civil infrastructure and electrical design, with the exception of the turbines at Penny Hill Farm, Rotherham.
The wind farm comprises six REpower 3XM104 wind turbines, which are the largest turbines in mainland UK, together with a switchgear and metering building, 80m anemometry mast and associated electrical infrastructure. CHC also constructed the reinforced concrete substation and NPG compound bases on site.
The turbine generators are a maximum height of 132m above ground level and accessed by new access tracks.
CHC was Principal Contractor for all works within the construction site under the CDM Regulations 2007.
Penny Hill Wind Farm has an installed capacity of up to 20.4MW, which will be able to power around 10,000 homes a year.
